Now my dad was a proud New Yorker
But his son should of read "Moby Dick"
As a boy I embarked to back teams out of Boston
Cuz' Fenway would cheer for The Mick
Yes, I set on that sad, futile journey
And my ignorance sealed my fate
By the time that I heard of that Curse of Bambino
Alas, it was really too late
The close-no-cigar world absorbed me
And that curse seemed to spread to the Pats
Damn Yankees and Gi's gave such joy to their guys
Would I live long enough to feel that?
Oh, dear Lord, Al-mighty in Heaven
Me-thinks I'm not talking to you
But I keep on believing there's something in goodness
To mend up these rhythms that matter much more
When I've only the trace of a clue
Now I loved Bobby Orr and Bill Russell
But football and baseball meant more
And year after year
I'd have moments to cheer
But the end was the same as before
Once came a day when the sun didn't shine
Though it's sitting right there in the sky
I won't describe all the death on the screens
When it's already there in your mind
The teams played again, When the ashes more settled
Boston won 7-2
But it's only one fan in the stands I remember I do
Dressed in his Red Sox re-galia
Holding a simple white sign
Raised over his head and it said
"I Heart NY"
"I Heart NY"
And the first time in days I was smiling
And My eyes and my heart filled with pride
I was thinking instead
Of the voice in my head
Did the curse of Bambino just die?
And the very next Sunday in Foxborough
And the star quarterback paid his dues
And he tried to brave on, but that role passed along
To a young guy who just couldn't lose
And we got all the way to the big game
And we've been there before, you'd agree
And the game-winning kick that should miss by a mile
Was perfect as perfect can be
And they went on to gridiron glory
And the Red Sox soon followed that lore
Their crowns built of comebacks that rivaled the ages
Both trophies were ours in '04
We owned everything in 04
